Leading the Way: Student Leadership at Woodlands Primary School

At Woodlands, we believe that every child has the potential to lead. By offering a diverse range of leadership roles, we empower our pupils to take ownership of their school environment, advocate for their peers, and develop the "soft skills" that last a lifetime.

Here is how our children are making a difference:

School Council

Impact and Responsibility:

The heart of student voice, these representatives meet to discuss school improvements and ensure every pupil’s ideas are heard.

School Council feel it is very important that all our pupils have a chance to be heard.

  • We have a responsibility to represent our classes.

  • We hope to make our school the best it can be.

  • We try to resolve problems, help our friends and to create a happy learning environment.

  • We feel it is vital to work as a team, help each other, remind each other when there is a meeting and what we need to ask our classes.

Eco-Council

Impact and Responsibility:

Our Eco-councillors focus on sustainability, from reducing energy waste to keeping our school grounds and the surrounding areas litter free.

At Woodlands, we pride ourselves on our awareness that everybody has a responsibility to care for the environment.

Our Eco-Council are really passionate about finding ways to keep improving how we help keep our planet healthy. Our main goal is to help the environment in both our school and local community by spreading awareness of environmental issues and doing our best to lead change.

Our Eco-Council recently gained the Plastic Free Schools status and the Green Flag Award.

We are looking forward to working towards achieving the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award again this year. So far Eco-Council have carried out an environmental review to identify the positive things we already do at school and the eco actions we want to address – watch this space!

Reading Ambassadors

Impact and Responsibility:

Passionate bookworms who promote a love of literacy across the school by recommending good reads and supporting younger readers.

At Woodlands, we appreciate the importance of reading for pleasure. We have appointed Reading Ambassadors from across the school who meet each half term to share great books. Our Reading Ambassadors also make recommendations for each phase and these are displayed in the library.

House Captains

Impact and Responsibility:

Role models who champion team spirit, take a role in assemblies, and motivate their houses during competitive events and daily life.

Rights Champions

Impact and Responsibility:

Champions of equality and children's rights, ensuring our school remains a safe, fair, and inclusive space for all.

Play Leaders

Impact and Responsibility:

Trained to facilitate inclusive games and foster a culture of kindness and active play during break times.
