Remote Education at Woodlands Primary School

At Woodlands Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils continue to receive a high-quality education when they are unable to attend school in person.

When remote education will be provided

Remote education is not a replacement for regular attendance at school and will only be put in place when:

  • The school is unable to open safely due to local or national guidance

  • Individual pupils are unable to attend school for a short period of time but are well enough to learn

In these situations, remote education will begin as soon as reasonably practicable and will be proportionate to the length of absence.

Curriculum and teaching

Wherever possible, pupils will continue to follow the same planned and sequenced curriculum as they would in school. This ensures continuity and supports pupils to build knowledge and skills over time.

Remote education may include:

  • Pre-recorded teaching

  • Independent learning tasks

  • Printed learning packs where required

  • Reading and subject-specific online resources

Daily learning expectations

In line with DfE guidance, pupils are expected to spend:

  • Around 3 hours per day on learning in Key Stage 1

  • At least 4 hours per day in Key Stage 2

There is no specification for younger children, but we would suggest around an hour per day for Nursery children and 2 hours per day for Reception children. These times should broken up to allow play opportunities in between.

Engagement and behaviour

We expect pupils to:

  • Engage in daily learning across the full curriculum

  • Submit work as directed

  • Follow the school’s behaviour expectations during remote learning

Support for younger pupils and pupils with SEND

We recognise that some pupils, particularly younger children and those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may need additional support to access remote education.

  • Learning will be adapted where necessary

  • Reception learning will be delivered through ClassDojo

  • Specialist support and therapies will continue where possible through remote or online provision

Access to devices and resources

We recognise that not all families have access to suitable devices at home. Where needed, the school can loan laptops or provide printed learning resources. If you require support, please contact the school office - schooloffice@woodlands.wirral.sch.uk.
